Laura Lagano - Nutritionist and health educator
Laura Lagano is a nutritionist and health educator with a long-standing interest
in the impact of diet on cognition and behavior. Her primary area of expertise lies
in counseling and coaching families of children with learning disabilities, AD(H)D,
, autism, asthma, allergies and other neurological and gastrointestinal-related
issues. Guiding these children toward optimum health, Laura has witnessed how food,
supplements, and detoxification can alter behavior and, ultimately, bodily processes.
Applying the principles of functional medicine to nutrition and lifestyle counseling,
Laura develops holistic health plans by addressing the underlying triggers of symptoms
and health problems. She relies on scientific evidence and clinical experience to
integrate conventional healthcare with complementary and alternative practices.
As a registered dietitian (RD) for over 20 years and founder of the Holistic Nutrition
Group, Laura treats each patient uniquely, providing nutrition and health roadmaps
based on individual needs, not population recommendations.
In addition to her clinical experience, Laura has produced continuing medical education
programs, school-age curricula, and patient materials. Perhaps most notable is the
“Dietary Fats Comparison Chart,” reprinted in countless magazines, journals, brochures,
and in-store displays. Recognized as a nutrition expert, Laura has written for periodicals
as diverse as Cooking Light, Environmental Nutrition, and The American Nurse and
been quoted in The New York Times, Child, and Food Arts. Equally competent on-camera,
Laura was the former New Jersey Dietetic Association spokesperson, appearing on
CNN, NJN, and the Food Network. She is a seasoned speaker who has presented to groups
as diverse as families, chefs, and healthcare professionals.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from SUNY Oneonta and Master of Science
in Nutrition Education from Columbia University, where she is currently a doctoral
candidate in Health Education. Laura has always made time for volunteer work, previously
serving on the boards of Nutrition in Complementary Care, Dietitians in Business
& Communications, and the American Medical Writers Association, as well as the boards
of her children’s schools. As an advisory board member of Developmental Delay Resources
and member of the American Botanical Council and Institute of Functional Medicine,
which represent forward-thinking nutrition ideology, Laura practices what she preaches
and follows Gandhi’s advice to “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
